Aqeel, Qamar strong contenders


KARACHI, Jan 24 - Aqeel Khan and Nomi Qamer who have won all their matches are strong contenders for places in the squad to represents Pakistan in the Davis Cup tie in Malaysia.

To pick a four-member squad for the Davis Cup, according to Sindh Tennis Association, till Thursday nineteen round robin matches of five sets were played.

The Davis Cup matches are slated for Feb 8-10 in Kaula Lumpur. Asim Shafiq who have joined the camp Thursday (Jan 22) will appear in trials Saturday.

Meanwhile, Shehzad Samad, Kamran Khalil, Inam Gul and Shehzad Khan who have lost all the matches against Nomi, Aqeel and Hassan Mahmood have no more chances to get place in the squad.

4th Round results: Aqeel Khan bt Hasan Mahmood 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3; Nomi Qamar bt Shazad Khan 6-3, 6-0, 6-2; Nomi Qamar bt Kamran Khalil 6-1, 6-3, 6-2.
