VEHARI, Jan 24: A large number of mustehqeen in the district have not been getting zakat fund for the last six month.

When contacted, a zakat and ushr official said that the government has not provided funds for payment to widows, orphans and elderly people.

He said that over 100 employees of the zakat and ushr office had also not been paid their salaries for the last six months.

A group of mustehqeen, who get Rs1,000 after every six months under the food support programme of Pakistan Baitul Maal, told this correspondent that the local post office officials have been creating problems while making payments.

“Hundreds of us come from far-flung areas of the district daily and return without getting the funds,” they said.
