LAHORE, Jan 24: Uplift schemes will soon be taken up through new social welfare organizations in the registered kutcha abadis in the Punjab.
This was stated by Social Welfare Minister Shaheen Atiqur Rehman at a meeting with kutcha abadis director-general Javed Iqbal here on Thursday.
These schemes, she said, would be initiated in 937 registered kutcha abadis all over the province. She emphasized the need for a workable coordination between NGOs and elected representatives for the implementation of such schemes in their respective areas.
Ms Shaheen said experiences and services of the established NGOs would also be availed while working out modalities on issues pertaining to women’s education, health and for eliminating violence besides their rights and interests.
She mentioned the Ujala literacy programme launched by the government and said it had been taken in hand in eight selected tehsils for providing education to poor girls. Similarly, teachers in 100 union councils would be trained, she concluded.
