Power failure blamed on theft

Published January 25, 2002

HANGU, Jan 24: Superintending engineer of Peshawar Electricity Corporation (Pesco), Khyber circle, Mohammad Ashraf Zahid Rana, has said the utility is resorting to loadshedding due to a high level of power theft in the district.

Speaking at an open kutchhery held here on Thursday, he said the Wapda employees in the operation against electricity theft had effectively  checked illegal connections and minimized  the incidence by 70 per cent.

The SE warned that strict action would be taken against those employees found taking a lenient attitude to power stealing.

The Pesco official urged the elected representatives of the district to help the Wapda staff detect power thieves and bring them to stand trial for incurring loss to the utility.

The kutchhery was attended by the officials of Kohat division union council Nazims, councillors and a large number of people. He urged the Wapda staff to solve the genuine problems of consumers without any delay.
