KARACHI, Jan 24: The export of kinnoo to Far Eastern countries has restarted after a break of ten days and about 800 containers have been shipped so far to these destinations.

President, Fruits and Vegetables Processors and Exporters Association, Mateen Siddiqui, told APP here on Thursday that exports of kinnoo was restarted from January 10.

He said that now the situation had normalized and shipment of kinnoo was resumed to these destinations.

He pointed out that it was very difficult to export unripe or bad quality kinnoo when are packed in cardboard carton. While it is easy to ship whatever quality in wooden packing. He said export of kinnoo was in full swing to Singapore where it exported in paper pack.

Mateen pointed out that sour kinnoo is enjoyed in Sri Lanka and nobody complain of its bitter taste. So far 50 containers have been shipped to Ceylon.

About seven to eight exporters had shipped at least 400 containers of unripe kinnoo to Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia, resulting in a sudden stop of exports to these destinations.

“It did not only brought a bad name to the country but also resulted in the cancellation of further orders of other exporters,” Mateen said.

The shipment of kinnoo was in full swing to these countries particularly Malaysia when some unscrupulous exporters shipped green and sour kinnoo to these markets.

The further orders of these unscrupulous exporters were cancelled and the Export Promotion Bureau was also informed about the incident.—APP
