Plea on jurisdiction of judges dismissed

ISLAMABAD, Jan 21: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition requesting the court to determine whether jurisdiction of the high court judges working at the benches has been curtailed as even the bail matters relating to NAB cases were being referred to the chief justice sitting at the principal seat.

The apex court bench declined to hear the constitutional petition on the ground that it would not interfere with administrative powers of the chief justice of a high court.

The bench comprising Justice Shaikh Riaz Ahmed, Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Nawaz Abbasi dismissed the petition with the observation that counsel for the petitioner and prosecutor general accountability should approach the chief justice Lahore High court who should be able to solve the matter.

Sardar Mohammad Ghazi, appearing on behalf of petitioner Qazi Naeem Ahmed, additional director general of Military lands had contended that bench of the Lahore High Court at Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur should also deal with bail applications in accountability cases.

Advocate Sardar Mohammad Ghazi, in a constitutional petition on behalf of additional director general Military Lands and Cantonment had challenged the vires of an order passed by a judge of LHC, Rawalpindi bench, declining to hear writ petition filed by him.
