Sehwani case hearing put off till tomorrow

RAWALPINDI, Jan 21: The Accountability Court No 1 on Monday adjourned the hearing of a corruption case against former Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman Shafi Sehwani till January 23.

Hearing of another reference against him in the Accountability Court No. 3 was also adjourned till February 8 due to absence of lawyers.

The former CDA chairman is a respondent in the NAB references pertaining to alleged corrupt practices. Shafi Sehwani, however, rejected the charges. On Monday he deposed in the court that he had already been bailed out in the case a year ago, and there was no way to mentally torture him by prolonging his unlawful detention. He contended that the prosecutor did not prove the same charges against him in two other accountability courts.

Mr Sehwani also contended that he and his wife had nothing to do with the property in question. The judge, Mansoor Ali Khan, asked him to produce evidence in his defence. —PPI
