Mazzini, Ahmad dazzle in final

LAHORE, Jan 20: Argentinean Garardo Mazzini (seven-goal handicapper) and Ahmad Khan scored four goals each to take Remounts Orange to a 10-7 win over Al-Baraka Islamic Bank in final of the Pepsi Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) Aibak ground Sunday.

Earlier, Khurshid struck four times and Captain Haseeb thrice to carry Remounts White to a 10-5 1/2 victory over Borjan in the subsidiary final.

Ahmad Khan drew first blood for Remounts Orange, scoring after a combined move with Garardo Mazzini. Sufi Mohammad Amir doubled the lead by scoring with an angular shot.

Faaiz Rahim Khan scored two back-to-back goals for Al-Baraka Bank to draw level before Mazzini sprung into action to fire two goals and steer his team to a 4-2 lead at the end of first chukkur.

Al-Baraka made a good start to the second chukker when Asif Tiwana scored a 60-yard penalty-hit Shah Qublai Alam scored a little later to level the match at 4-all.

Nevertheless, Ahmad Khan pumped in two successive goals with the aid of Mazzini to put his team 6-4 ahead.

Mazzini scored his third and fourth goals during third chukker while crowning field efforts.

Malik Atif Yar Tiwana reduced the margin for Al-Barak Bank with a field goal while his elder brother Asif scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit to reduce the deficit to 8-6.

Asif Tiwana scored his third and Al-Barak Bank’s seventh goal on a spot penalty but Ahmad Khan got his fourth goal and Remounts Orange’s 10th with a long hit.

Remounts Orange: Farooq Chughtai (0), Sufi Muhammad Amir (0), Gerardo Mazzini (7), Ahmad Khan (3).

Al-Baraka Islamic Bank: Faaiz Rahim Khan (1), Malik Atif Yar Tiwana (3), Shah Qublai Alam (3), Malik Asif Yar Tiwana (3).
