Haseeb spurs Nee Punhal

LAHORE, Jan 19: Haseeb Mehta scored three goals to take Nee Punhal to a facile 7-4 win over Borjan in final of the G. Moeenuddin Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground Saturday.

Irfan Ali Hyder put in four goals to carry Musa Industries to a creditable 7—3 1/2 victory over Ist Law Company in the subsidiary final.

Nee Punhal scored two field goals to earn an early 2-0 lead over Borjan in first chukker.

Feroz Gulzar scored a field goal at start of second chukker to increase the lead. Thereafter, Hussain Iftikhar scored two back- to-back goals to reduce the margin (2-3) for Borjan before the second chukker ended. Hussain first scored on a 60 yards penalty- hit and later converted a 40 yards penalty-hit.

All three field goals of third chukker were scored by Nee Punhal. Gulzar scored his second goal at beginning of this chukker as well as Mehta, while Usman Haye put in his first goal to give Nee Punhal 6-2 lead.

Agha Murtaza scored two goals for Borjan in fourth chukker. He converted a spot penalty near the goalpost and before conclusion of the final scored a field goal. In between these goals, Mehta converted a spot penalty near the goalpost, which was seventh goal of Nee Punhal. Murtaza’s effort could not save Borjan from 3-7 defeat.

Nee Punhal: Hashim (0), Haseeb Mehta (2), Usman Haye (0), Feroz Gulzar (-1).

Borjan: Jamal Iftikhar (0), Agha Murtaza (0), Hussain Iftikhar (1), Munawwar Baig (0).

Umpires: Lt.-Col. Isfandyar Pataudi & Adnan Lone.

Ist Law Company had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap and could score three goals during play. Ahmad Ali Tiwana converted a 30 yards penalty-hit in second chukker and 40 yards penalty-hit in third chukker for Ist Law Company. Aurangzeb Monnoo scored a field goal for this team.

Musa Industries struck at regular intervals to score seven goals and carve out a 7—3 1/2 win. Irfan Ali Hyder was the most outstanding scorer.

In fact, Irfan opened scoring in the match with a field goal while Khushi also crowned a similar effort during first chukker.

Tiwana scored at start of second chukker for Law company. Thereafter, Irfan scored two back-to-back field goals.

Khushi scored his second goal at start of third chukker. Shehzad  Aziz converted a 30 yards penalty-hit  for  Musa Industries. Irfan scored his fourth field goal. Thereafter, Monnoo and Tiwana scored for Law Company. There was no scoring in fourth chukker.
