Young Ukrainian leads

MOSCOW, Jan 18: Ukraine’s Ruslan Ponomariov and Vassily Ivanchuk drew the third of their eight games in the FIDE world chess championship final Friday, leaving Ponomariov 2.0-1.0 up in his bid to become the youngest ever title-holder.

The grandmasters drew in 47 moves in a knight-and-pawn ending, Ponomariov playing white.—AFP
