Quaid golf tees off today

LAHORE, Jan 17: The 54-hole sixth Quaid-i-Azam amateur golf tournament will tee off at the Lahore Gymkhana course Friday with 257 golfers to vie for top honours.

Around 168 golfers will compete in the amateur section, eight in ladies, 49 in seniors,11 in veterans and 21 in juniors.

The main trophy would be awarded on the best net score.

Shahid Javed Khan, Vaqas Ahmed (Rawalpindi), Tariq Mehmood (Islamabad), Mohammad Safdar, Imran Ahmed, Dr Zahid A.Khan, Mir Maaz Mahmood, Imran Zubair, Omer Tiwana, Sameer Iftikhar, Adil Jehangir (Lahore Gymkhana), Lt Col Raja Asif Mehdi (Lahore Garrison) are amongst the leading golfers who have sent confirmations.

The entry of the defending champion Abdullah Sharif of Railways has not yet been received.

In the amateurs section, golfers having 18 or below handicap are competing. Similarly, ladies having 36 or below, juniors 36 or below (Under-14), seniors 18 or below and veterans above 70 years (one extra stroke for every 2 years of age) are eligible to play.

The amateurs competition will run between Jan 18 and 20, ladies on Jan 18 and 19. The event for juniors, seniors and veterans will run on Jan 19 and 20.
