Foreigners end up on losing side

LAHORE, Jan 16: Remounts Whites and Borjan registered narrow wins in the Pepsi Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club Wednesday.

Remounts Whites enjoyed 1/2 goal handicap to beat Remounts Orange 6 1/2-4.

In another match of the competition Borjan defeated Falcons 5 1/2-4 with a 1/2 goal handicap in its favour.

A seven-goal handicap foreigner Garardo Mazzini and another six-goal handicap player Ivan Jose Araya played in the two matches but both were among the losing quartets.  Mazzini represented Remounts Orange and Araya played for Falcons.

For Remounts Orange, Sufi Muhammad Amir drew first blood in the first chukker by putting in a field goal with Ahmad Khan scoring another field goal. Khursheed scored a field goal for Remounts Whites. At end of the first chukker, Remounts Orange led 2-1 1/2.

The only field goal of second chukker was scored by Ahmad Khan which increased Remounts Orange lead to 3-1 1/2.

Remounts Whites dominated third chukker by scoring all three goals and snatched away the lead (4 1/2-3). Manzoor Shah and Khursheed scored a field goal, each while Captain Haseeb Minhas converted a 40 yards penalty-hit.

At start of fourth chukker, Captain Minhas converted another 40 yards penalty-hit. Shah scored his second goal on a field effort. Farooq Chughtai scored his only and Remounts Orange’s fourth goal, crowning a field effort. But his effort fell short of requirement as this could not overhaul the Remounts Whites’ lead.

Remounts Orange: Farooq Chughtai (0), Sufi Muhammad Amir (0), Ahmad Khan (3), Garardo Mazzini (7).

Dr I. A. Khan scored a field goal for Falcons on a pass from Araya. Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” crowned a team effort to score for Borjan. At end of first chukker, Borjan led by one-and-a-half goals to one (1 1/2—1).

Araya scored only goal of second chukker to put Falcons’ ahead (2—1 1/2).

Although Araya scored his second and Falcons’ third goal on a 30 yards penalty-hit at start of third chukker, it was dominated by Borjan. Taimur combined well with Saqib Mawaz Khan to score his second goal. Arsalan Najib scored three goals in succession for Borjan. He scored a field goal on a solo effort. Thereafter, Arsalan converted a 30 yards penalty-hit after which he completed his hat trick after a long chase.

Only goal of fourth chukker was put in by Sufi Haris for Falcons.
