Swimmers for Tehran gala

LAHORE, Jan 16: Pakistan has announced a five-member team for the Ist Prince Faisal Fahad swimming championship to be held at Tehran, Islamic Republic Iran from Jan 31 to Feb 5.

Besides Pakistan, 27 Islamic countries are taking part in the championshp in which diving and waterpolo competitions will also be held.

The secretary Sindh Swimming Association, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah has been appointed as manager while national coach Muhammad Hafeez Bhatti will act as coach.

Munawar Luqman (Wapda) and Muhammad Fiaz (Army) are two stand-byes.

The squad will depart for Iran via Dubai from Lahore on Jan 29 and will return on Feb 6.

Team:

Zulifqar Ali (100m, 200m butterfly, 200, 400m individual medley).

Abid Husain (100m, 200m and 1500m freestyle).

Mumtaz Ahmad (200m, 400m, 1500m freestyle).

Muhammad Khan (100m, 200m freestyle).

Rauf Husain (200m, 400m freestyle).

The team will also take part in the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x200m freestyle relay events.

Besides Pakistan and Iran the other participating countries are Krgyzstan, Uganda, Guyana, Togo, Cameroon, Mozambique, Guinea, Oman, Morocco, Maldives, Senegal, Libya, Niger, Palestine, Jordan, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, Syria, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon and Yemen.
