Three killed in tribal clash
SUKKUR, Jan 16: Three Khoso tribesmen were killed in a shooting between two rival groups in the Bhaiya Laro village, Jacobabad district, on Wednesday night.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Jacobabad, where two of them were identified as Mureed Khoso and Haji Soomar Khoso. The third body was not identified till the filing of this report.
Police control Jacobabad told Dawn that it was a case of old enmity.
TWO KILLED: Two tribesmen were killed and three others were injured in a clash between the Bhayo and Jakhrani tribes in Haji Qabil Bhayo village, Jacobabad District, on Wednesday.
Cattle belonging to the Jakhranis started grazing in the fields of the Bhayos as a result of which the dispute started. Soon it turned into an armed clash as a result of which M. Sharif Bhayo and Dunia Bux Jakhrani were killed, while one Bhayo and two Jakhranis were injured.
THREE KIDNAPPED: A dozen armed dacoits entered Haji Kamal Magsi village, opened indiscriminate fire and kidnapped three men — Sabir Ali, Juma Khan and Karam Din — on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses said the dacoits came on foot and escaped on foot with the kidnapped men.
TWO RECOVERED: Dacoits armed with automatic weapons kidnapped two men — Abdul Latif and Khadim Malik — and stole a tractor from Haji Noor Muhammad Khoso village on Wednesday.
Police sources belonging to the Tangwani police station claimed that a police party chased the dacoits and had both Mr Latif and Mr Malik released. The tractor was also recovered. However, none of the dacoits were arrested.
Police also claimed that a stolen motorcycle was also recovered from their possession.
MAN KIDNAPPED: A man, Naimatullah, was kidnapped by armed dacoits from Tangwani on Wednesday.
SCHOLARSHIPS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Sukkur, has invited applications for awarding scholarships to the children of secondary/higher education and college teachers for the year 2001-2002.
In the first category, 15 scholarships worth Rs150 per month tenable for a year will be awarded to those students who are studying in Class X during the academic session 2001-2002 on the basis of the results of the SSC Part I (Class IX) annual examinations 2001.
In the second category, 15 scholarships worth Rs200 per month tenable for two years will also be awarded to those students who are studying in Class XI during the academic session 2001-2002 on the basis of the results of the SSC Part II (Class X) annual examinations 2001.
The students who secured an aggregate of 50 per cent marks in the papers of SSC Part I & II annual examinations 2001 will be eligible for being awarded scholarships.
