Haseeb’s efforts goes in vain

LAHORE, Jan 14: Diamond Paints won a closely contested match 8 1/2 -8 against Remounts Whites on the opening day of the Pepsi Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club Monday. Diamond Paints won the match by virtue of 1 1/2 goal handicap.

Remounts were leading the encounter at the end of the third chukker 8-4 1/2. Diamond Paints staged a come back in the fourth chukker scoring four goals, two through Samiullah and one each by Saqib Khakwani and Isfand Yar Pataudi, each. In all, Isfand Yar Pataudi scored two goals.

For the losing side, Captain Haseeb Minhas played a brilliant game and scored five goals while Khurshid added three goals but their efforts were foiled by Samiullah, Saqib and Isfandar Yar who launched a four goal rally in the final chukker.

Samiullah completed his hat trick in the first chukker by scoring two field goals and one through converting a 30 yard penalty hit.

Diamond Paints: Saqib Khakwani (2), Samiullah (3), Lt. Col. Isfandyar Pataudi (2), Mir Shoaib Ahmad (7).

Remounts Whites: Capt Sheheryar (1), Manzoor Shah (1), Captain Haseeb Minhas (3), Khurshid (9).

In other match of the day, three goals each by Malik Asif Yar Tiwana and Shah Qubilai Alam enabled Al-Barka Islamic Bank to beat Borjan 7-4 1/2 . 1 1/2 goal was the handicap of the losing side.

Tiwana added the remaining goal for the winning side.

For the losers, Taimur Mawaz Khan scored all three goals.

Al-Barka: Faaiz Rahim Khan (1), Atif Yar Tiwana (3), Shah Qubilai Alam (3), Asif Yar Tiwana (3).

Borjan: Taimur Mawaz

Khan (2), Arslan Najib (2), Saqib Mawaz Khan (3), Umer Sadik (1).
