NAWABSHAH: Rally against WTO policies

NAWABSHAH, Jan 14: A large number of growers from several parts of Nawabshah district took out a rally against the policies of World Trade Organization here on Sunday.

The rally, staged under the aegis of the Sachal Sami Welfare Organization, started from the press club and ended at the H.M. Khoja auditorium where a convention of peasants and growers was held.

Speaking at the convention, the senior programme manager, South Asia Partnership, Irfan Mufti, said that 80 million of our population belonged to the agricultural sector and out of them 75 millions were haris.

Terming the agriculture policy of 1993 anti-farmers, he said that imported seeds were of very a poor quality.

Saleh Billo, said that the policies of the WTO were against the interests of developing countries and poor people of the world including growers.

Ex-senator Ghulam Qadir Chandio and Tasleem Zahoor, also spoke on the occasion.
