KARACHI: Woman run over by water tanker: 16 bikes taken away

KARACHI, Jan 14: A young woman was run over by a water tanker in Defence on Monday.

The police said that Safia Imam, aged 30, a domestic servant, was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a water tanker on Street No 26 in Khayaban-i- Shamsheer. The water tanker was travelling at high speed.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem. The driver of the water tanker escaped, the police said.

Three persons died in railway accidents in the city on Monday.

The police said that two unidentified persons died when they were hit by a train near Drigh Road railway station. The bodies were sent to the JPMC for post-mortem. After post-mortem examinations the bodies had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, the police said.

Another unidentified man was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a railway engine in the police limits of TPX in the evening, the police said.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem, and was later shifted to the Edhi’s morgue for identification.

CARJACKING: Twenty vehicles — four cars and 16 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

Two cars were hijacked. Two others were stolen. Eleven motorcycles were stolen. Five others were hijacked.

ROBBERY: Two bandits robbed a young man of cash at gunpoint at Liaquat Flyover on Monday night. Malik Salman Saeed was passing through the flyover, when two men signalled him to stop. As a car ahead of him was already slowing down, Saeed had to stop his car. When the car came to a halt, the robbers hurriedly switched off the ignition of the vehicle, and they pulled out pistols and demanded valuables. They searched the victim’s wallet and took out Rs3,000, but returned documents at the request of the victim. The bandits walked away on foot.

The victim told this reporter that one of the bandits was in his early teens and carried a pistol. A police picket was situated near the flyover, but it was unmanned at the time, the victim said.

BURNS: A young man suffered burns in the limits of Kalri police on Monday.

Hospital sources said that Arif Masih was brought from the CMH Church in Lyari. Arif suffered 36 per cent burns. He was admitted to the burns ward of the hospital.

The police could not immediately ascertain the cause of the accident.

ARRESTED: The excise police Karachi South arrested two women in Lyari on Monday and recovered three kilograms of fine quality heroin and 400 grams of charas from their possession, adds PPI.

The excise police, during their ongoing drive against drugs, received a secret information about the presence of a female drug trafficker at Jhatpat market in Lyari. The police searched the woman, Rubina, who was accompanied by her two children, and recovered three kilograms of heroin which she had concealed under her clothes.
