Amer lights candle of peace

By Our Reporter

LAHORE, Jan 13: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood lit the candle of peace at Christians’ national integration convention held at Youhanabad village in Union Council 142 area on Sunday.

Speaking to the participants in the convention, the Nazim said that everyone living in the country was a Pakistani, irrespective of one’s religion caste or creed.

He called upon the people to realize the gravity of the situation and forge unity in their rank and file for the defence of their homeland.

DIRECTIVE: Mian Amer Mahmood issued on Sunday directives for rooting out religious extremism, sectarianism and intolerance in the light of President Pervez Musharraf’s address to the nation.

Speaking at a meeting of the district city administration at the Nazim House here, Mian Amer said that misuse of mosque loudspeakers should be checked with an iron hand. The loudspeakers should be used only for giving the message of religious tolerance and sectarian harmony.

He expressed the hope that the ulema would try to understand the message of the president in its true perspective and would not be misled by the false propaganda of the vested interests.

He said that not only the offices of the militant organizations should be closed down but the foreign students staying in the religious seminaries should also be identified.

The president’s directive in respect of building new mosques and establishing new religious seminaries after obtaining a no-objection certificate should also be implemented in letter and spirit.
