Bowlers enjoy upper hand


KARACHI, Jan 10: Bowlers enjoyed an upper hand on the second day of Patrons Cricket Trophy grade-II matches Thursday.

At Asghar Ali Shah (AAS) Stadium, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) conceded 106-run first innings lead to Servis Industries as they were dismissed for 201 in their first innings in reply to Servis Industries first innings total of 307 for six.

Off-spinner Zeeshan Safeer caused the main damage with four wickets for 37 runs in 9.1 overs. Opener Shahid Dawood hit the top score of 63 with four boundaries after 171 minutes stay at the crease.

Shahid with Bilal Murtuza added 91 runs for the first wicket. Bilal hit three 4s in 38 after batting for two hours and 20 minutes.

Servis Industries extended their lead to 159 by scoring 53 for one wickets in their second innings by close in the three-day match.

At UBL Sports Complex Ground PTCL were in command against University Grants Commission (UGC).

PTCL took a 60 runs first innings lead against UGC by scoring 221 in their first innings after resuming at the overnight score of 41 for one. All-rounder Jawad Hamid who took five wickets for 65 in UGC first innings made 37 with six hits to the ropes.

Spinners Mamoon Khan and Muhammad Farrukh caused the main trouble in PTCL batting ranks. Left arm spinner Mamoon took five for 93 in 36 overs while off-spinner Muhammad Farrukh got four for 40 in 22.1 overs.

PTCL medium pacer Yasin Bari took three wickets for 14 as UGC slumped to 32 for six wickets in their second innings at close on second-day in the three-day tie. UGC needed another 28 runs to save an innings defeat.

UGC 161 (Jawad Hamid 5-65) and 32-6 (Ghazanfar Ahmed 19, Yasin Bari 3-14). PTCL 221 all out in 78.1 overs (Jawad Hamid 37, Irfan Hyder 37, Adil Hanif 35, Asif Ali 30, Mamoon Khan 5-93, M.Farrukh 4-40). At UBL Sports Complex. Servis Industries 307 for six (Kashif Imran 117, Shahbaz Butt 109). KESC 201 all out in 68.1 overs (Shahid Dawood 63, Bilal Murtza 38, Tabish Khan 18 not out, Zeeshan Safeer 4-37, Muhammad Irshad 2-72, Javed Butt 2-79).—APP
