KARACHI: Town Nazim fined for delaying suit proceedings

KARACHI, Jan 10: The assistant sessions judge, East, Ms Gulshan Ara Chandio, fined on Thursday a town Nazim for using delay tactics in the proceedings of a civil suit against him.
Azam Ali, Nazim of Malir Town, who was made respondent in the civil suit, was fined Rs500 by the judge. The suit was filed by Afzal Ahmed, who alleged that the Nazim had demolished his shops in Khokhrapar.
The judge also ordered the Nazim to submit his written reply for his behaviour before the court on 25th.
CONVICTED: The Special Anti-Narcotics Court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, sentenced a Nigerian to a five-year term for attempting to smuggle 950 grams heroin.
Romenado Ziennepuo, who had concealed the contraband drug, stuffed in 75 capsules, in his rectum, was also fined Rs100,000. The judge ordered that the drug trafficker would have to undergo an additional six-month term in case of default on the payment.
The African was arrested on May 17, last year by the Anti-narcotics Force (ANF) at the airport.
Meanwhile, the additional district and session judge, South, Farooq Ali Channa, sentenced a robber to suffer rigorous imprisonment for seven years.
