KARACHI, Jan 9: Off-spinner Jawad Hyder captured five wickets for 65 runs to spin out University Grants Commission (UGC) for 161 in their first innings on the opening day of their three-day Patrons Cricket Trophy grade-II match at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium Wednesday.
By close of play, PTCL responded by reaching 41 for the loss of Ashar Zaidi, who made 27 with five boundaries. Irfan Hyder was 10 not out.
Muhammad Shoaib topscored for UGC with 47 laced with seven 4s. Jawad got good support from paceman Yasir Bari, who chipped in with two wickets for 53 runs.
At UBL Sports, Services Industries piled up 307 for six wickets in 80 overs of the first innings against Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) thanks to brilliant hundreds by Kashif Imran (117) and Shahbaz Butt (109).
Kashif and Shahbaz added 189 runs for the third wickets in 175 minutes after first two wickets tumbled with nine runs scored. Kashif batted for 259 minutes and faced 203 balls while Shahbaz faced 175 balls in his ton.
