CIA man, civilian injured in shootout

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 9: An official of the Crime Investigation Agency and a civilian were injured in an encounter with the station house officer of the Aziz Bhatti police station near Civic Centre on Wednesday.

A senior police official said ASI Hameedullah and civilian Chanzeb attempted to kidnap Liaquat in a yellow cab. Liaquat raised alarm and attracted the attention of SHO Rustam Khattak, who was passing by. He stopped his vehicle near the yellow cab and challenged the suspects who fired at him and attempted to flee.

The SHO returned the fire. As a result, ASI Hameedullah and Chanzeb suffered bullet wounds.

The injured were taken to a private hospital where the condition of Hameedullah was stated to be serious. Liaquat told the police that he was being kidnapped when the SHO came to his rescue.

The police said an inquiry would determine whether the incident took place due to misunderstanding or it was an attempt of kidnapping.

ASI Hameed was posted in the CIA Malir. However, Chanzeb was named in the FIR registered in 1991 at Sharea Faisal police station under section 324 of the PPC for attempt to kill someone.
