HYDERABAD, Jan 9: The government has allocated Rs2 million to every taluka hospital for purchasing medicines, Sindh Health and Population Welfare Minister Ahsan Ahmed stated on Wednesday during his visit to the taluka hospital Hala.

He said medical centres especially for mother and child would be set up in all the taluka hospitals which would also provide free medicines and food to the patients.

The government had sacked many of the doctors and staff who remained absent from their duties without intimation, he added. The minister urged doctors and other hospital staff to work hard and pay full attention to patients.

Earlier, the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr M. Paryal Channa, had informed the minister that despite the completion of Hala hospital construction, it had not been made fully operational owing to non-availability of the SNE.

He added that only operation theatre surgeons, specialists of T.B, eye, gynae, and dentists were working there.

Mr Ahsan visited various sections and wards of the hospital and inquired the patients about their health.

Hala Nazim Makhdoom Habibullah, Sindh Health Services Director-General Dr. Fateh M. Khan and other officers of the health department were also present.

Later, talking to newsmen, the minister said prompt action was being taken against ghost doctors while unregistered and uncertified drugs were also being checked.
