LAHORE, Jan 3: Captain Haseeb Minhas scored four goals to carry Remounts Whites to a convincing win over Millat Tractor by 7—2 1/2 in the Marry Max II polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Thursday.
In a very close match of the competition, Marry Max beat Remounts Maroons by 6-5. For Marry Max, Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” and Malik Asif Yar Tiwana scored three goals, each. In fact, Taimur scored the decisive goal for Marry Max on a field effort during fourth chukker.
Millat Tractors enjoyed half-a-goal’s advantage on handicap and could score only two goals through Raja Sattar. As compared to that, Remounts Whites struck at regular intervals and Captain Haseeb Minhas was the most outstanding.
Haseeb scored two goals during first chukker. He converted a 40 yards penalty-hit and later scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit for Remounts Whites.
In between Haseeb’s goals, Raja Sattar scored a field goal for Millat Tractors. At end of the first chukker, Remounts Whites led by 2—1 1/2.
Ahmad Khan scored his only goal at start of second chukker on a field effort while Haseeb scored his third goal in a similar fashion to increase Remounts Whites lead 4-1 1/2.
Captain Shehryar scored two back-to-back field goals to further enhance the Remounts Whites lead 6—1 1/2 before end of third chukker.
Raja Sattar scored his and Millat Tractor’s second goal on a field effort while Haseeb scored his fourth and Remounts Whites’ seventh goal.
In the other match, Malik Asif Yar Tiwana scored his and Marry Max’s first goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit. This was only goal of first chukker.
Samiullah scored two back-to-back goals for Remounts Maroons on 30 yards penalty-hits. Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” scored his first of the three goals on a field effort. Asif scored his second goal on a similar effort. At end of second chukker, Marry Max led 3-2.
Taimur scored his second and Marry Max’s fourth goal on a field effort during third chukker. Samiullah scored his and Remounts Maroons ‘third goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit. Manzoor Shah scored his first and Remounts Maroons’ fourth on a field effort to tie the score at 4-4.
Fourth chukker was bitterly-contested in which Marry Max scored two goals as against one by Remounts Maroons. Asif scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit to make the score 5-4. But Shah scored a field goal to level the score again at 5-5. Taimur scored the all-important goal, crowning a field effort which brought the victory to Marry Max.
