Javed leads by example
KARACHI, Jan 3: Karachi Blues skipper Mohammad Javed led by example as his team staged a fightback on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy Grade-I cricket match against Karachi Whites at KCCA Stadium Thursday.
Javed claimed all four Whites wickets Thursday to finish with five for 63 with his medium-pacers and restricted Karachi Whites to 251 in their first innings.
The all-rounder then struck an unbeaten 41 as the Blues reached stumps at 167 for seven.
Tailender Rizwan Saeed also batted with authority to make 34 in the unfinished eighth-wicket partnership of 58 in 77 minutes.
The Blues lost their first six wickets for 74 with a mixture of reckless batting from their specialist batsmen. Ghulam Ali, however, took two fine catches in the slips to dispose off Afsar Nawaz and Nomanullah.
Mohammad Farooq, making his fist-class debut, clutched onto a superb reflex catch at silly-point to terminate Farhan Adil’s patient knock of 29 off 84 balls.
Earlier, Javed captured three wickets for two runs in 11 deliveries with the second new ball as the Whites added 43 runs to their overnight total of 208 for six.
Moin Khan, the Whites captain, fell after adding only four to his Wednesday’s score of 81.
