LAHORE, Jan 3: A division bench of the Lahore High Court issued notice to the attorney-general in a petition challenging four recent Supreme Court appointments.
The bench comprising Justices Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad and Syed Jamshed Ali took up the petition filed by Advocate A.K. Dogar on behalf of the Pakistan Lawyers Forum.
The petition was amended to implead all four judges elevated to the Supreme Court and to allege that the appointments were made without consulting the chief justice of Pakistan.
The lawyer did not press for an interim order against the administration of oath. The bench issued notice for an unspecified date.
AMENDED PLEA: An amended writ petition against the confinement of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and Maulana Masood Azhar of the disbanded Lashkar-i-Tayyaba and Jaish-i-Mohammad was filed in the Lahore High Court on Thursday.
The petition, field by Advocate M.D. Tahir, earlier sought a variety of directions, including one for a ban on certain Indian organizations and surrender of their leaders. Justice Karamat Nazir Bhandari allowed the amendment on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the lawyer pressed for prompt hearing of his petition challenging the ban imposed on Indian and other foreign TV channels. In reply to an LHC office objection, that there was nothing urgent about the petition to warrant its hearing during the winter recess, the lawyer said the situation was serious on the Line of Control and the border with India and people wanted the latest information for all sources.
