GHAZI, Jan 3: The people affected by the Ghazi Barotha Project have decided to take National Accountability Bureau to the court for alleged persecution and violation of the World Bank agreement.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the affected people here on Thursday. Tehsil Nazim Ghazi Syed Qasim Shah presided over the meeting which, besides the affected people, was attended by Nazimeen, and Naib Nazimeen and councillors of various union councils.
It was pointed out that NAB had filed a case in the accountability court for the recovery of compensation money given to them under the World Bank agreement. They said that it was a violation of the Resettlement Action Plan signed by the Government of Pakistan, Wapda and the World Bank.
Tahir Jameel, President of a local non-governmental organization, said he would approach the World Bank to lodge a formal protest in this regard.
A committee was constituted on the occasion headed by Malik Asghar Ali to take the matter to a high court and seek redressal and protection from NAB persecution.
The National Accountability Bureau has filed corruption cases against several people involved in the multi-million dollar Ghazi Barotha Project for overcharging the land requisitioned for the purpose.
