MULTAN, Jan 3: A security guard, Naeem, was shot dead by some unidentified persons on Abdali Road here on Wednesday night.
In another incident, a youth was tortured to death in Sarafa Bazaar at Pak Gate.
Ishrat Sultana told newsmen that her son, Adnan, was employed as a salesman at a shop in Sarafa Bazaar. On Monday, shop owner Gul Hasan tortured him alleging that he had stolen his mobile phone. He became unconscious and was taken to the Nishtar Hospital where he died on Wednesday.
DACOITS ARRESTED: The police claim to have arrested 280 dacoits and recovered cash and valuables worth Rs30.2 million from their possession during the year 2001.
According to a press release issued here on Thursday, the police recovered 157 motorcycles, 29 cars, six wagons, two trucks, two tractors, two jeeps and a Pajero from the possession of these dacoits.
During a campaign against prohibited bore weapons, the police registered 756 cases and seized 44 rifles, 51 guns, 490 pistols, 69 carbines and 1,562 bullets.
The CIA police busted nine gangs and recovered Rs600,000 in cash from them.—Nouman
