No woman surgeon to perform autopsy

SIALKOT, Jan 3: Heirs of the deceased females have to face ordeal in getting autopsy reports due to the absence of a lady surgeon at the Government Allama Iqbal Memorial (DHQ) Hospital for the last three years.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) gave a verdict last year that only the lady surgeons were allowed to do the autopsy of the females.

People have to wait for 48 to 56 hours to get the reports arranged by the hospital through alternative.

When contacted, hospital authorities told this correspondent that lady surgeons avoid getting themselves appointed here as the procedure for females’ autopsy was complicated.

Meanwhile, a female surgeon doctor at the Government Sardar Begum Memorial Trust Hospital said there was no dead house in the hospital and the bodies of women had to be sent to the DHQ Hospital where no lady surgeon was available.

People have urged the Punjab governor to take stock of the situation for the convenience of people.

ESTABLISHED: The Pakistan army, in collaboration with local business community, has established the Shuhada Welfare Trust at the Sialkot Cantonment.

This was stated by Sialkot Garrison Commander Maj-Gen Abdul Jabbar Bhatti while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said Pakistan army was on the alert against Indian aggression and was capable of defending the country.

The local business community donated a chunk of Rs15 million for the trust.

Earlier, high ranking army officials briefed the commander about Indian aggression along the Sialkot working boundary.
