Kamran’s hat trick proves decisive

LAHORE, Jan 2: Kamran scored five goals, which included a hat-trick, to carry Sunday TV to a convincing win over Spurs Blues by 10-6 1/2 in the Marry Max II Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground Wednesday.

In another match of the competition, Sufi Mohammad Haris scored four goals to pave the way for Master Paints win over Borjan by 8 1/2-6.

Spurs Blues had advantage of two-a -and-a-half goals on handicap and scored four goals during play which included a hat- trick by Abdul Rahman. Sunday TV scored ten goals, which besides Kamran’s five goals, Lt.-Col. Isfandyar Pataudi scored three and Malik Atif Yar Tiwana two goals.

Junaid Jafar drew first blood by scoring a field goal for Spurs Blues. Malik Atif Yar Tiwana also scored a field goal for Sunday TV before first chukker ended Spurs was leading 3 1/2-1.

Lt.-Col.Isfandyar Pataudi scored two back-to-back goals on field efforts for Sunday TV at start of second chukker. Rahman scored his first field goal for Spurs. Kamran scored two back-to-back field goals for Sunday TV and Atif scored his second and Sunday TV’s sixth goal. At conclusion of the second chukker, Sunday TV led 6-4 1/2.

Isfandyar scored his third and Sunday TV’s seventh goal at start of third chukker on a field effort. Rahman scored a field goal for Spurs. Kamran scored his third and Sunday TV’s eighth goal. At end of the third chukker, Sunday TV led 8—5 1/2.

Kamran scored two back-to-back goals to complete his hat trick at start of fourth chukker. He converted a spot penalty near the goalpost and thereafter, scored a field goal. Rahman also completed his hat-trick by scoring his third goal also on a field effort. Thus Spurs lost 6 1/2-10.

Master Paints enjoyed one-and-half goals’ advantage  on handicap and put in seven goals during play to beat Borjan, who scored six goals. Haris alone scored four goals for Master Paints.

Master Paints gained a clear lead by striking four times in first chukker to build a big lead of five-and-a-half goals to nil (5 1/2-0). Haris scored two and Mir Shoaib Ahmad and Ashfaq Ahmad one goal, each. Only Haris’ second goal was scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit while all others were on field efforts.

The second and third chukkers were dominated by Borjan. Agha Murtaza Ali struck at start of the second chukker while Saquib Khakwani also scored a field goal for Borjan. At start of the third chukker, Saquib Mawaz Khan converted a 40 yards penalty- hit. Irfan Ali Hyder scored a field goal for Borjan and Saquib also gained similar honours. Before the third chukker concluded, Haris scored his third goal.

Saquib Khakwani scored his second and Borjan’s sixth goal at start of fourth chukker. Maula Bakhsh scored a field goal for Master Paints. Haris converted a 30 yards penalty-hit to score his fourth goal and give Master Paints a clear victory.
