PESHAWAR, Jan 1: Electricity supply to a locality near Defence Housing Society in Peshawar city remains suspended since Monday evening.

The residents of Mohallah Gujjran Kandi and Mohallah Charanda informed Dawn that the locality was without electricity since Monday evening.

They said that the Pesco officials told them that the Warsak-II grid station had developed some fault, due to which the power supply to the area had been suspended.

The people of the area have started to leave their homes and were putting up with their relatives in other localities. There was even water shortage due to power outage in the area for the last 24 hours.

The women and children in the two localities are facing a lot problems as they have to be readied and sent to school in the early hours of extremely cold mornings.

A Pesco spokesman, when contacted, told Dawn that the consumers have obtained illegal connections from the main supply lines and were unwilling to remove the same and relieve the load.

He said that Pesco offices received the first complaint regarding the power failure in the area at 7.29pm on Tuesday evening. He said that Pesco staff was busy locating the fault and the power supply would be restored shortly.

The spokesman said that three power transformers in the Palosi area had tripped due to overloading.

The spokesman after confirming with his staff informed Dawn that the concerned line superintendent had received the first complaint about the power failure at 12.30pm on Tuesday.

He said that the staff tried for more than five hours to rectify the fault, but the damage is so severe that the transformer will have to be replaced.
