13 die in accident

MUZAFFARABAD, Dec 31: At least 13 people were killed and 35 others injured when a bus plunged around 200 feet down an escarpment near the Lamian Pattian village, 10km from here, on Monday morning.

The bus (AJKB-1389), coming to Muzaffarabad from Shaheed Galli, overturned after it went out of the driver’s control and veered off the hilly road.

The vehicle was overloaded and the driver was controlling the steering with one hand and using his another hand as shade against the sun when the bus overturned and plunged about 200 feet down the escarpment, an injured told Dawn at the Combined Military Hospital.

Those died were identified as Khani Zaman, Nazir, Abdul Latif, Aftab, Haji Ali Zaman, Mumtaz, Dr Abdur Rashid, Fida Hassan, Arshad, Sosan Jan, Master Bashir, Khurshid and the driver, Khani Zaman.

The injured were taken to the CMH.

Officials at the hospital said they had admitted 27 injured, some of whom were in critical condition.
