Nadra to set up ‘swift registration’ centres

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 31: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) will open a chain of Swift Registration Centres (SRCs) all over the country in 2002.

A source in the department told Dawn here on Monday that the step was being taken to facilitate people applying for the computerized identity cards.

Facilities of provision of forms and photographs would be ensured to the public in the one window centres, source added.

The staff would feed data relating to applicants, take photographs, and give receipts to the people for collecting their cards on the date mentioned.

It is learnt that Nadra will open the first branch of SRC in Multan which will be followed by establishment in Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan and in the Punjab. Saving time, the centres would help scores of people obtaining NICs before the parliamentary elections.

REGISTRATION: At least 1,271 enumerators will go door to door from Jan 1, 2002, for the registration of voters of 21 years, correction and deletion of their names in Bahawalpur district.

The Deputy Election Commissioner, Bahawalpur division, told Dawn on Monday that arrangements had been finalized to conduct the drive. He told that Bahawalpur district had been divided into 1,627 electoral areas, having 2,120 electoral units. Some 470 schoolteachers would supervise the work assigned to the enumerators, he added.

In Rahim Yar Khan district, he said, there would be 2,399 electoral areas and as many electoral units, adding around 1,196 enumerators would undertake the job to be supervised by 398 teachers.
