Remounts Whites win

LAHORE, Dec 30: Ahmad Khan scored three goals to take Remounts Whites to a 5-3 win over Popular Chemicals in final of the Marry Max Cup Polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground Sunday.

All three goals for Popular Chemicals were scored by Shah Qublai Alam, which constituted a hat-trick.

Malik Atif Yar Tiwana alone scored four goals, including a hat-trick, to earn a win for Guard Rice over Remounts Maroons by 6 1/2-6 in subsidiary final.

During the final, there was no scoring in first chukker.

Shah Qublai Alam opened scoring for Popular Chemicals by converting a spot penalty near the goalpost at start of second chukker. Thereafter, Remounts Whites struck thrice to build a 3-1 lead before this chukker ended. Ahmad Khan scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit and then scored a field goal, combining well with Manzoor Shah. In between the two goals, Manzoor Shah himself scored a field goal for Remounts Whites after a long chase.

Qublai scored his and Popular Chemicals second goal on a 40 yards penalty-hit, which reduced the margin 2-3.

Ahmad Khan crowned a combined effort to score his third and Remounts Whites’ fourth goal at beginning of fourth chukker. Qublai scored his and Popular Chemicals’ third goal on a pass from Captain Azhar Ali to complete a hat-trick. Sufi Muhammad Haris scored his only goal on a pass from Manzoor Shah to give Remounts Whites a 5-3 victory.

Guard Rice had an advantage of one-and-a-half goals on handicap. Khurshid scored a field goal for Remounts Maroons on a pass from Samiullah at start of first chukker. Before end of this chukker, Tiwana scored two back-to-back goals on 60 yards penalty-hits to give Guard Rice a 3 1/2-1 lead.

Samiullah scored a field goal at start of second chukker for Remounts Maroons. Atif scored a field goal with an under the belly shot to complete his hat-trick. Thereafter, Samiullah scored two back-to-back goals which earned him his hat-trick.

Samiullah scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit and then converted a 30 yards penalty-hit. Guard Rice led 4 1/2-4 at end of this chukker.

Only goal of third chukker was put in by Samiullah on another 30 yards penalty-hit. This gave Remounts Maroons a lead of 5-4 1/2.

At start of fourth chukker, Atif scored his fourth goal after a long chase while Arsalan Najeeb also scored a field  goal for Guard  Rice. That was his only goal which proved decisive. Samiullah scored his fifth goal and Remounts Maroons sixth goal which could not save this team from defeat.
