Five caught stealing power

GUJRANWALA, Dec 30: A joint raiding team of the army and the Gujranwala Electric Power Company caught five power thieves red-handed stealing electricity in the Sabzi Mandi area here on Sunday.

The raid was conducted on a tip off that some consumers were stealing electricity for their houses and shops. The raiding team issued them detection bills besides removing their meters and other equipment.

INJURED: A participant in a marriage procession was injured in exchange of fire between police and some merrymakers in Kalaseki village, Ahmad Nagar, on Sunday.

The marriage procession of one Nasir reached Kalaseki village where some people were firing in the air in jubilation. A police party reached the spot and tried to arrest them. But they opened fire on the police which was retaliated. In the crossfire, one Qaisar Mahmood, a cousin of the bridegroom, sustained injuries.

Later, a heavy contingent of police reached the spot and arrested five persons — Asif, Ijaz, Akhlaq, Qaisar and Shahzad.

SUSTAIN BURNS: Six workers sustained burns when a factory caught fire on Ferozewala Road here on Sunday.

The factory caught fire reportedly due to a short-circuit. Five workers sustained burn injuries while trying to put out the fire. They were taken to the local Civil Hospital.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire after an effort of two hours.

Meanwhile, two houses in People’s Colony and Mukhtar Colony also caught fire due to gas leak.
