FAISALABAD, Dec 30: The Tehsil Municipal Administration (Saddar) has decided to impose new taxes on 52 items and enhance fee on 43 others for augmenting its financial resources.

Sources at TMA said since the installation of the local government system, it had been facing problems in launching uplift projects for want of funds.

They said the grant promised by the government had not been received, therefore, it had decided to review the whole structure of various fees and levies. The amount left by the defunct zila council was not enough to initiate any development work, they said.

It may be mentioned that the TMA Saddar area is mainly rural and most of its villages are without civic amenities, requiring huge funds for the development.

The TMA proposed to impose surcharge of Re1 on each ticket of stage dramas, circuses, theatres, recreational programmes and death-wells; Rs2 on magic shows and Rs25 annually for a cable connection, they said.

Similarly, it also decided to levy duties on cycle workshops, welding plants, and shops of radio repairing, video games, cloth printings, cigarettes, pans, pakora-smosas, ice cream, embroidery, electricians, plastic goods and iron.

The TMA also intend to impose duties ranging from Rs100 to Rs20,000 per annum on clinics, shops of hakeems, ready-made garments, petrol pumps, service stations, poultry farms, arms factories, private hospitals and manufacturing units, they added.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed while another sustained serious injuries in two fog related road accidents here on Sunday.

A motorcyclist, Muhammad Amir, was knocked down by a speeding wagon in Gulistan Colony. He received serious head injuries and died on the way to hospital.

A speeding bus hit a couple riding on a two-wheeler on the Dijkot-Faisalabad Road as a result of which Noor Ahmed and his wife Shamim Akhtar sustained injuries. They were shifted to a nearby hospital where Shamim died.

Six POs held: Local police on Sunday claimed to have arrested six proclaimed offenders from various parts of the district.

Led by information, several teams raided hideouts and arrested Zulfiqar of Ghulam Muhammadabad, Imdad Husain of Chak 217-RB, Mazhar Abbas of Chak 422-GB, Jameel of Mananwala village, Muhammad Mansha of Langrana and Asadullah of Chak 353-GB.

Investigation is underway.

FOUND DEAD: A youth was found murdered from a canal in Lundianwala.

Police recovered the body on the information of residents of the locality. The whereabouts of the deceased is yet to be identified.
