KARACHI: Youth killed over petty dispute

KARACHI, Dec 30: A teenager was killed over a petty dispute in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Sunday morning.

According to police, boys were playing cricket at a ground in PIA Housing Society when Amjad Ali Chawla, resident of House No. B-18 of the locality, was struck by a ball while he was gardening outside his house.

As the boys came to collect the ball, Chawla, owner of a cement depot, hit Mohammad Zafar, 17, in the face and went inside his house. Chawla, with his two sons, came out and opened fire.

A bullet hit Zafar in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body was sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

The SHO of Gulistan-i-Jauhar said that two suspects — Chawla’s son, Wasif, and his guard, Saleem, — had been arrested and a pistol had been seized from their possession.

Police are conducting raids to arrest Chawla and his another son, Yawar.

BODY FOUND: The body of a middle-aged man was recovered in F. B. Area on Sunday morning.

Police said that unknown man was in his 40’s and had suffered several head injuries.

The body was sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy, and was later sent to the Edhi morgue.

SHOT DEAD: A watchman was shot dead over old enmity in Baldia Town late on Saturday night.

According to police, Hasan Jan, 37, was on duty in Abidabad Baldia Town when an unknown assailant shot him to death.

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the medico-legal officer.

Police said the victim had some personal enmity with a person, named as Shakeel.

However, no arrest had been made till the filing of this report.

KILLED: A young man was shot dead in a motorcycle snatching bid in Orangi Extension late on Saturday night.

Shaukat Ali, aged 28, was returning home with his two friends after attending a fair in Orangi Extension Sector 11 when bandits intercepted him near a desolated place and asked him to hand over their motorcycle (KCT-9934) to them.

The area police quoting Ali’s two companions said when Shaukat had requested the bandits not to take away his bike, one of the bandits had shot at him and escaped with the motorcycle.

The injured was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the medico-legal officer.

SUICIDE: An elderly man attempted suicide in his house in Baghdadi on Sunday.

Mohammad, 50, who lives alone in his house at Khada Market, Baghdadi, consumed some poisonous substance. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital, where he was stated to be in a serious condition.

INJURED: A young boy sustained burn injuries in the Sukhan area on Sunday.

Hospital sources said Zahid, 18, had been brought to the Civil Hospital with 74 per cent burns from Cattle Colony.
