HYDERABAD, Dec 30: The vice chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, Dr Bashir Ahmed Chandio has stressed the need for research in veterinary especially in livestock breeding. He said modern methodology should be adopted in the research work so that our research was acknowledged at the international level.

He was speaking as chief quest at the seminar on the documentation and characterization of camel breeds of Pakistan delivered by Mohammad Nawaz Baloch for his PhD degree at the university campus on Saturday.

The VC assured cooperation of the university teachers in research work of the research scholars.

He called upon the university faculties and departments to perform their due role in bringing about a green revolution in the agriculture sector of Sindh and Pakistan.

Identifying the country’s camel breeds, Mr Baloch who is also the additional secretary of livestock and fisheries department, Sindh, said that they included Lari, Kharai, Sakrai and Dhatti from Sindh, Brahvi, Makrani, Lasi, Rodbari, Pishini and Kharani from Balochistan, Marecha, Bagri, Brela and Campbelpuri from Punjab, Kala-Chitta, Ghulamani, Gaddi, Khader and Maya from NWFP and double-humped Bacterian from the Northern Areas.

Another PhD scholar, Mr Ahmed, also presented his seminar on the inheritance of some characters in Okra under drought conditions. The major theme of the thesis was plant breeding and genetics.
