KARACHI: Rally against war today

Published December 31, 2001

KARACHI, Dec 30: Citizens for Peace will stage a rally in front of the Karachi Press Club on Monday at 5.30pm, says a press release.

The rally is aimed at urging India and Pakistan to exercise reason and restraint, reduce tension along the borders and solve their problems through peaceful dialogue.

The press release adds that those attending the Dec 31 rally have been asked to wear white (or some item of white clothing) and bring a white candle. Many participants are planning to bring white flags, white balloons and white cardboard doves.

It adds that the initiative has been taken by peace-loving citizens in the city who met recently to voice their feelings on the subject of growing militancy and tension between the two neighbouring countries, India and Pakistan.

The rally, to be attended by individuals as well as various rights groups, is planned as the first of various “peace actions”.

A signature campaign for peace will be initiated along the lines of “cloth banner campaign” undertaken in Lahore and Islamabad to protest the nuclearization of South Asia.
