Daggers, razors smuggled aboard planes

LONDON, Dec 30: Two reporters successfully brought concealed daggers and razor blades aboard two British Airways internal flights, the Sunday People reported.

The reporters from the weekly managed to pass through security controls at London Heathrow and at Manchester airport, where the tabloid said the fact they only spent a half an hour before returning to the capital did not raise any suspicions.

They had disguised the weapons inside a false pen, comb and credit card, and X-ray machines did not pick up the objects.

Apart from concealing the items in their hand-luggage, one of the reporters had sat only three rows behind the flight cockpit of the British Airways Boeing 737, the paper added.

British Airways said that it was “very concerned” at the report and that it would be talking to the government to see what could be done to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The Ministry of Transport has announced an inquiry into the incident.—AFP
