Pakistan against war: Naib Nazim

Published December 29, 2001

SWABI, Dec 28: District Nazim Sher Zaman Sher said on Friday that Pakistan government was opposed to the escalation of tension in South Asia and war between the two nuclear powers of the region.

Addressing the union council Nazims, he said if the Indians did not give up their hegemonistic posture and massive military build-up on Pakistan borders the latter would have no choice but to defend the country.

Mr Sher warned that due to the continued Indian military build-up war clouds were hovering over South Asian region and Pakistan was confronted with very difficult situation, but, he added: “We are capable to defend our country.”

“We will teach a lesson to the enemy if war was imposed on us. The Indian war-mongers have already created a war-like situation on Pakistan-India border and Pakistan government has been making all-out efforts to avoid war and wants the solution of all outstanding issues between the two countries through peaceful means. But if India wanted to browbeat Pakistan these tactics will not work and if they attack our motherland we will strike back with full force,” he stressed.

He said the entire nation was behind the government of President Gen Pervez Musharraf against Indian actions.
