SUKKUR, Dec 26: Rainfall caused disruption of power in Sukkur and its allied areas.
The power supply which went off with the start of the rainfall could not be restored till 9.00 a.m. Due to the power failure the people could not get drinking water.
The water level at the right bank of River Indus has also fallen down alarmingly, causing disruption in supply of water in the city. The municipal corporation has laid wide gauge pipelines near Sukkur Island (Bakkhar) and has installed big motors at the water works to keep restored the water supply to the citizens.
The irrigation department has informed the municipal corporation that on Jan 5, water at the right bank of River Indus would totally exhaust, as such the corporation should make arrangement to get water from the left bank
In this connection a high level meeting, chaired by the district coordination officer, Nisar Ahmed Siddiqi, decided to construct a Moat, so that in case of need water could be obtained from this Moat.
Meanwhile there has been hue and cry in Faiz Gunj area where thousands acres of land and crop have become dried due to non- availability of water. Several localities of Faiz Gunj sub- division have been adversely hit due to water shortage, and people of the area have demanded for severe action against the irrigation officials on their failure to maintain water supply.
Our Larkana Correspondent adds: Larkana experienced a long power breakdown following a spell of rain in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The power failure was due to the damages caused to the underground cables near the Municipal Stadium, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) sources said on Wednesday.
The power went off around 2:30am and was restored around 4:20pm.
The main city feeder was shut down by the Hesco for restoring power, the sources said.
HUNDRED BOOKED: The Naudero police have booked 100 villagers, including the Nazim of union council Saedodero, Ashfaque Bhutto, for allegedly blocking the Larkana-Naudero railway track and stopping the Shahbaz Express on Dec 24.
They had held a protest demonstration on Monday near Metla village against the kidnapping of two villagers — Manthar Bhutto and Jumman Bhutto — from the Jewan Bhutto village.
