Under-training nurses not getting stipend for three months

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 26: Some 50 females, who are being imparting nursing training at the Nursing School of Mirpurkhas have not been paid their three months stipend.

Talking to Dawn , the under training nurses alleged that the administration was not paying their stipend due to which they were facing hardships.

They said that they were needed stipend every month regularly so that they could get their training without any problem.

They demanded of the higher authorities to take notice and ensure immediate payment of their stipend.

TB PATIENTS TREATED: Under the Direct Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS), 1,700 patients of

tuberculosis have been treated, while, 2,600 patients of TB were registered in Tharparkar district from August to December 2001.

This was stated by Dr Ali Nawaz Kalar, Executive District Officer (Health), Tharparkar, while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said that under DOTS programme, complete examination and treatment of the TB patients was being made at Taluka Hospital, Diplo, Rural Health Centre, Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Chhachhro, Khensar, Basic Health Centre, Jadim Janjhi, Dano Dandal, Aamrio and Chelhar.

He further said that under non-DOTS programme, 1,900 TB patients were examined from May to July 2000, and among them 1,700 patients were treated.

Four to five such centres would be established soon in different parts of the district to eliminated TB from the district, he added.

Train service demanded: The president of Railway Workers Federation and Inqilabi Union, Manzoor Ahmed Razi, has lashed out at the railway authorities for closing train services at different railway sections with connivance of the transport mafia and demanded of the government, to restore the train service for the benefit of the poor people.

Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, he advised the government to start speedy train services at Hyderabad-Badin, Mirpurkhas-Pithoro and Digri sections to provide better travelling facilities to the people of the interior of Sindh while, the railway department will also earn more income from these sections.

Ten gamblers held: About 10 gamblers were rounded up by the Satellite Town police in a raid on a gambling den in Deh 120, Mirpurkhas Taluka, on Wednesday.

Report said that on a tip off, the Satellite Town police conducted raid and arrested 10 gamblers identified as Nisar Lashari, Lutuf Ali Lashari, Sirajul Haq Lashari, Iqbal Hassan, Sultan, Gul Mohammad, Shagan, Sultan Lashari, Mir Mohammad and Abdul Haq and recovered Rs920 from their possession.

The accused persons reportedly had attacked the police party few days back when the police nabbed some gamblers and forcibly released the arrested gamblers.

The Satellite Town police have registered the case on charges of attacking the police party and forcibly releasing the arrested accused.
