JHANG, Dec 26: Eleven persons were killed while 25 others were injured in three road accidents in the Punjab on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Six people, including four members of a family, were killed and 10 others injured in an accident near Riwaz bridge over River Chenab, some 12km from here, near Chund Bharwana village on Tuesday night.
A wagon was on its way to Sargodha when its driver, while passing over the narrow bridge, tried to overtake another vehicle. When it crossed over the bridge, the driver lost control over the steering and the wagon dashed into a truck standing along the road waiting for its turn to cross over the bridge. Ashraf, a resident of Bashir Chowk, Satellite Town, Jhang Saddar, his son Waheed, daughters Safia and Aisha and one Afzal, an army officer, died on the spot while wagon conductor Sarfraz succumbed to injuries in the DHQ Hospital, Jhang.
Ashraf’s third daughter Raamish sustained serious injuries and was shifted to the Allied Hospital, Faisalabad.
The injured admitted to the DHQ Hospital included Mazhar Shah, Zawar Husain, Surayya, Irshad, Bilal Ahmad, Kausar Parveen and Bushra.
In another accident which took place on the Gojra-Jhang Road, Toba Tek Singh, on Wednesday, four people were killed and two others injured.
Six persons, including Safdar Ali, Tehsin Salim, Shahzad Siddiq, Shahzad Ahmad and Kashif, were going to Jhang from Gojra by a car. Near Dhamman Bangla, some five kilometres from Gojra, the car dashed against a roadside tree. Safdar, Tehsin, Siddiq and the unidentified man died on the spot, while Shahzad Ahmad and Kashif sustained injuries. They were admitted to the Gojra Tehsil Headquarter Hospital in critical condition.
One person was killed and 13 others injured when a bus overturned on the Tandlianwala-Okara Road on Tuesday.
A bus was going to Okara from Tandlianwala. Near Husainabad, it overturned when one of its tyres burst. Conductor Shafi died on the spot, while 13 passengers sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to hospitals.
