Hawthorne dies

LONDON, Dec 26: Sir Nigel Hawthorne, the British actor best known for his role as the scheming civil servant in the BBC hit “Yes Minister”, died on Wednesday from a heart attack aged 72, his agent said.

Hawthorne had been battling cancer for the past 18 months and had just come out of hospital where he had been having chemotherapy treatment, said Ken McReddie.

He said the cancer treatment had been going well and the heart attack was unexpected.—AFP
