HYDERABAD, Dec 24: In an ‘encounter’ between police and dacoits, a dacoit was killed in a bungalow in Naseem Nagar, Phase-III, Kahkashan Society, Qasimabad, on late Monday night.
A police motorcycle patrol received information that some suspects were roaming about in the area in a car (AC-1927). The police started watching the car. Its driver soon parked it outside the bungalow of late SP Abdul Haq Waqasi, presently in the possession of his son, Nadir Waqasi.
The SHO, Qasimabad, Arshad Laghari, reached the bungalow. At that time, some people left in a car (ADC-006) which was chased by the police. However, the dacoits managed to escape.
The police returned to the bungalow and spotted the suspects’ car (AC-1927) parked outside the bungalow.
As soon as the SHO knocked at the door, somebody started firing from inside the bungalow.
A heavy contingent of police soon arrived there and opened fire. The encounter lasted for about 45 minutes.
When the firing from inside stopped, police cautiously entered the bungalow and found a body and recovered a Kalashnikov, two pistols, a bag containing bullets, thousands of rupees in cash, and a list containing the numbers of many cars from the pocket of the dacoit killed, who has not been identified as yet.
The SSP, Hyderabad, Moazzam Jah, who also rushed to the spot told newsmen that the bungalow was perhaps being used by the criminals who were being patronized by the owner, Nadir Waqasi. Nadir Waqasi has reportedly absconded.
The women folk inside the bungalow who were watching TV feigned total ignorance and refused to talk to the police. Police have, however, detained two servants including Nazir Umrani and are investigating.
