LAHORE, Dec 24: The ticket system for traffic violators will be introduced in five cities in the first week of January.

This was stated by DIG traffic Hamid Malik at a press conference here on Monday.

He said in the first phase, the ticket system would be introduced in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

The DIG said the fine would initially be deposited with the National Bank. He said bank service charges had been waived off to facilitate the people.

He said the traffic police had divided Lahore into 27 sectors and established ‘traffic ticketing centres there. These centres would work from 10am to 6pm. Traffic violators, after depositing the fine with the bank, would take back their papers from the area centre.

The DIG said only 10 days would be given to violators for paying the fine otherwise their papers would be sent to the court. He said 20 types of ticket would be issued for different violations with different amounts of fine.

He said 59 police mobile posts would be established in 16 cities where the accidents took place in quite a large number. The cities are Lahore, Shiekhupura, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawal-pindi, Jhelum, Sialkot, Jhang, Sahiwal, Okara, Sarghoda and Rahim Yar Khan. These mobiles would not only provide first aid but also shift the injured to hospitals, he said.

Answering to a question about an increase in the number of accidents, he said drivers used to sleep during long routes. He said he had discussed the matter with the governor and hoped that a law would be passed to have two drivers for long routes.
