Remarks flayed

Published December 24, 2001

MINGORA, Dec 23: Fazal-ur-Rehman Nono, the general-secretary of the Pakistan People’s Party, Swat, has criticized former federal interior minister Naseerullah Babar for his remarks against NWFP former chief minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.

Talking to this correspondent here on Sunday, Mr Nono said Sherpao’s decision to return to the country was in the best interests of the poor, as he had always served the people with a great zeal.

He remarked that Babar knew about his political failures and added that his comments would deteriorate his political stature. The leader described as baseless the cases filed against Sherpao, saying that the cases had been prepared by a former prosecutor-general, Farooq Adam, only to take revenge.
