Two stage artistes held for vulgarity

FAISALABAD, Dec 23: The local police claim to have arrested whole cast of two stage dramas, including producers and directors, on the charges of using vulgar language and dances here on Saturday night.

On the report of constable Zafar Iqbal, Gulberg police raided Shahzad Cinema where comedy drama Dil Key Chorr was being staged. Police arrested its producer and director Maqsood and performers — Alisaha, Laila Siddiqui, Aisha Chaudhry, Bindya, Sakhawat Naz, Shazib Mirza, Afzal Bobi, Shaukat Rangeela, Ismail Baig, Tanzeen Hassan and Shabbir Akash for violating drama script and showing dances in short dresses.

Police also raided ABA Cinema and arrested producer Rana Tariq Saeed, director Amjad Jawed and actresses Lashana, Sidra Noor, Afsana, Shabana Bhatti for dancing in brief dresses during the stage drama — Ho Jai Gi Ballay Ballay. Police also rounded up actors Tariq Taidi, Akmal Rahi, Mustafa Tand, Azhar Rangeela, and other supporting artistes for violating rules and regulations of the Punjab Arts Council.

Police have sent all the arrested artistes to jail after registering two separate cases against them.

COMMITS SUICIDE: A jobless youth, Jawed Ahmad, on Sunday committed suicide by shooting himself in Zam Zam Colony, Samundri tehsil.

Police have sent the body to Allied Hospital for postmortem and registered a case.
