Naib Nazim caught stealing electricity

GUJRANWALA, Dec 23: A joint raiding team of army and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on Sunday caught a Farid Town union council Naib Nazim tampering with electricity meter.

Receiving an information, the team raided Sardar Azeem Sarwar Khan’s house and recovered the equipment and defective meters.

Civil Lines police have registered a case against the culprit.

KILLED: Five people, including an elderly woman, were killed while 25 others sustained injuries in different road accidents here on Sunday.

Reports reaching here revealed that Nasim was on her way back home on the GT Road, Rahwali, when she was knocked down by a rashly-driven coaster. She died on the spot.

Cantonment police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

Meanwhile, a wagon collided head-on with a truck on the Sialkot Road, Sodara Town. Wagon passengers Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Yousaf of Jetheki village died instantly. At least 25 people sustained injuries. They were taken to the THQ Hospital and the local Civil Hospital in precarious condition.

Muhammad Usman of Chak Ramadas Wahando was run over by a bus on the Wahando Road. He expired in no time.

Liaquat Ali of Baghbanpura was crushed to death by a pick-up on the Sheikhupura Road.

Investigation is underway.

LOOTED: Dacoits on Sunday took away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in six different strikes in and around the city.

Five dacoits barged into Faqir Husain’s house in Banke Cheema village, Cantonment. They held up the inmates and escaped with Rs15,000 in cash, 10 tolas of gold jewellery and other valuables.

Four robbers burst into Chaudhry Nasirullah Cheema’s house in Daden village, tied the inmates and made off with Rs45,000 in cash, 20 tolas of jewellery and electronic devices. The outlaws beat the inmates on resistance before leaving.

In another incident, some six armed men took away Rs30,000 in cash, 16 tolas of jewellery (dowry) and other valuables from Chaudhry Abdul Shakoor’s house in Jamkey Chattha village.

Four robbers targeted Muhammad Boota’s poultry farm on the Pir Kot road. They tied guard Karam Dad and fled with cash, a TV set and a rifle.

Meanwhile, three highwaymen deprived watchmen Nasir and Rafiq of wristwatches and Rs2,000 in cash outside another poultry farm. Muhammad Tufail was deprived of four-wheeler on the Hafizabad Road.

ARRESTED: Four landlords of Jamkey Chattha village were arrested on the charge of providing protection to proclaimed offenders at their houses and aiding their escape.

On a tip-off, a police team raided the houses of the landlords but the POs had already escaped. The team arrested the accomplices.

Investigation is underway.
